Improv Patchwork Retreat with Maria Shell-
REGISTRATION IS OPEN!!! email firstname.lastname@example.org to register. We’ll give you the secret handshake to get into the room!
Maria will be facilitating 2 workshops in 1. This four day experience will be a mash-up of these two popular workshops;
MAKING PRINTS OUT OF SOLIDS—LINES, TRACKS, & MORE
Using solid colored quilters cottons, students will learn how to stitch an assortment of pieced prints including stripes, tracks, dots, and grids. While learning these new techniques students will also be given information about selecting a color palette, improvisational piecing techniques, and ideas for taking these techniques and creating original quilts.
BLOW IT UP!
Using the traditional quilt block or other set of compositional lines (bridge, building, etc…) as your starting point we will enlarge and magnify the lines of the structure and use them as our skeleton for building a pieced composition. From there we will explore a variety of ways to create texture, pattern, and repetition in that space.
Class times are from 10:00 am – 4:30 pm, and the hall will be open before and after class times so you can stay at your machine much longer if you choose.
email email@example.com to get all the info and to register.
The workshop will take place in the Community Hall on Denman Island. Guest accommodations are available on Denman (google “where to stay on Denman Island”), and in nearby Comox Valley. There is a ten minute ferry ride to Denman Island from Buckley Bay. Buckley Bay is about an hour’s drive north of Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. It is advisable to use saturday as a travel day as we will be starting at 10 am on Sunday. The hall will be open at 8 am so participants can set up their stations before class begins.
Lunch will be included in the workshop fees. Participants can opt-in for arranged dinners at the time of the workshop. Denman Island has limited dining-out choices, but we’ll get you fed, and well!
A supply list will be sent to participants upon registration. Tables, chairs and irons will be provided, and participants are expected to bring all their own sewing supplies, sewing machines and fabrics.
