Skill level: all levels
The Modern Quilt movement has brought strong, lively graphic quilts to the forefront, and with the improvisational techniques taught in this class, each student will make this quilt uniquely theirs through design choices and fabric selections. We start with a basic square shape and build from there, playing with simple design concepts like repetition, scale change, colour and value variations. The sewing will be done with a sewing machine (bring your own or inquire about renting one of our vintage models). In this class, we’ll work with solid coloured fabrics, print fabrics or a combination of both to make a geometric modern quilt.
Sewing machine, good fabric scissors, rotary cutter (if you have it), large cutting mat, thread in neural colour, seam ripper, small thread snips, paper (or sketchbook) and pencil for note taking. Fabrics – solid coloured cottons, vintage finds, repurposed fabrics from shirts, table cloths etc, or a collection of coloured cottons that pleases you. You’ll need about 2-3 (or more, don’t hold back) yards in all.
